My Favorite Cartoon Character, Life & Music

My Favorite Cartoon Character, Life & Music

I recently had a thought about my favorite cartoon character, and how he relates to my life & music. This thought began at a really cool weekly meeting I attend here in Nashville with a group of several other people in the music industry. I’ve grown to love this group, called Balanced Breakfast, and the people in it. You should see if there is a Balanced Breakfast group, or something similar in your town!

Each week the meeting begins with an “ice breaker,” where everyone is asked a question that is designed to break the ice, so to speak, and begin the meeting in a fun way. This week, the ice breaker question was “what is your favorite cartoon character?” I picked Phineas, from the show “Phineas and Ferb,” as my favorite.

In case you’re not familiar with the show, Phineas and Ferb are step brothers who are on Summer vacation. They view each day they have off of school as a gift, and want to be sure to experience each moment to the fullest. Every day Phineas and Ferb enjoy crazy, fun adventures with an amazing cast of quirky, hilarious characters, pushing the limits way beyond what any normal person would believe anyone could possibly do in a lifetime, much less in a single day. One day they build a giant roller coaster in their back yard, another day a rocket ship, and yet another day they build a time machine, all while unwittingly thwarting an evil inventor’s plot to take over “the tri-state area,” as well as their older sister’s obsession with busting them for doing these crazy, impossible things. It’s truly fun and hilarious, and if you haven’t seen it, you really need to!

So why do I like Phineas so much, and what does this have to do with life and the music business? Phineas is the one who always comes up with the incredible ideas that are seemingly impossible, and with the help of Ferb and their friends, they make them happen. Each day is an amazing adventure, and their creations bring joy to many. That’s how I want to live my life, and run my music business. Who is to say what is possible and what is not? Society, and even our friends and family that mean well, will tell us what can and can’t be done, but what they say is often not truth.

In the words of Henry Ford, “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.” Phineas believes he can. What do you believe?

Here’s an article that expands on Henry Ford’s insightful quote:
